Guidelines
The Local Advisory Panel (LAP) to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) functions in accordance with the guidelines established by the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission.

The CVP's Local Advisory Panel (LAP) assists and advises the Montgomery County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC) in the performance of its functions. Although the LAP's role is advisory, its contributions and support are essential to the HPC's work and to advancing public understanding of the history of Montgomery County's communities.

The HPC values and relies on the perspectives and information provided by the LAP, particularly during its review of Historic Area Work Permits, as well as in other matters related to historic preservation.
Planning to Remodel?
Historic Area Work Permit (HAWP)
Montgomery County Historic Preservation offers tax credits for houses that had repairs, restorations and/or preservation of exterior features of homes in our Historic District.
If you are planning major changes to the exterior of your house or to your yard (including walkways) in Historic Capitol View, you must submit a Historic Area Work Permit (HAWP) to the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
Please note that the removal of major living trees also requires a permit! For further information call 301-495-4600 or visit the website above.
Tax Credit Program Information
Your house does not need to be historic to qualify as long as it is located in the historic district. The cost for the repairs must be at least $1,000. The tax credit deadline for submission is April 1st following the date of the completed work. For more information, visit the HPC website or call 301-563-3400.

Remember to save your receipts for any exterior home repairs you did this year!
